  • What if our team isn't comfortable on camera?

  • How should we prepare for a video shoot?

  • Can filming take place in our office?

  • How much disruption should we expect during filming?

Video scares me. I hate the way I look on camera.

  • How do I look natural in a video?
  • What if I'm nervous on camera?

Practice in advance and ask your video team if they have a teleprompter. If you are consistently looking at your notes, are you really the expert? Glancing at your prompts will keep you on track, then speak from knowledge. If you typically talk with your hands, then do it in the video, too. Misty with Photography by Misty used to freeze up during video capture. Our video team would ask, "What happened to Misty?" Typically smiling and upbeat, the camera made her nervous. Having a videographer who detects nervousness is a tremendous help. Make sure in advance that they know how to direct and make people feel comfortable in front of the camera.

  • What should I wear for a business video?

Wear what you would wear when meeting with a client. In general, stay away from busy patterns (unless topped with a jacket), attire whould be well-fitting - not too loose or too tight. Sleeves that flow into bodices just add weight. If wearing a jacket, be sure it buttons. Over-sized jackets may be trending, but the look on camera is you getting dressed up in your parents' clothing.

For men, a suit and tie are not necessary and can make you unrelatable and stuffy. However, a sports coat and an oxford or even a T-shirt is dressy enough and will help both you and your audience feel at ease.

Women have a lot more flexibility (sorry, Guys). A nice pant suit is great, but not neccessasry. What is necessary is 3/4-length sleeves or longer, breaking up busy patterns with a jacket or choosing a patterned scarf or other accessory instead. Accessories should be classic, not trendy. Video can be costly and should be updated only if they content is dated - not because giant hoop erring are no longer the rage. Skirts and dresses are a great option. Just be mindful. If you'll be sitting during the video, go for below-the-knee.

Be mindful of anything other than your face or words being a possible distraction.

  • How do I avoid sounding scripted?

Practice. Knowledge. Confidence. Practicing in front of someone who will give you honest feedback is imperative.

  • Can you help me know what to say?

Most videographers will help you with what to say. You are the expert. However, experts know how the words are used translate. For example, if you say the word awesome 5 times throughout the video, it becomes distracting and oftentimes humorous. Let's make them laugh in other ways.

While our video team is great, Misty suggests you meet with both her and your assigned videographer to collaborate on preparation.

  • Why do manufacturing companies need video content?

Written instructions for assembly or how to use a product are useful, however imperative details may be skipped and others may not use the same vocabulary.  Think about elementary school when you had show and tell. Telling your classmates what your Dad does for work or telling them about your new Lego model was exciting to you. However, did it resonate with them? Bring your dad into the classroom or showing them how one gear moves the entire model is exciting for everyone. Instructions that include a QR code is a gamechanger and speaks to people who learn in various ways.

Guided from the Beginning

You don’t need to have it all figured out—that’s our job. Clients often ask:

“What kind of video do we actually need?”

“How do we make sure it represents our brand?”

“Will this actually help our business?”

We walk through all of that with you—clarifying your goals, your audience, and how this video will be used so every decision has purpose behind it.

Planning with Intention

Before a single camera comes out, together we'll think through:

What is the goal of this video?

Who is it for?

Where will it live (website, LinkedIn, internal use, events)?

What should people feel or do after watching it?

 From there, let's build:

interview questions or scripts

a simple, clear run-of-show

guidance for wardrobe, locations, and messaging
