Everything You Need to Know About Corporate Event Photography

FAQs

What is corporate event photography?

Corporate event photography is a service that captures the essence of your event -- the people presenting the program to celebrating the attendees. Photography by Misty documents the big and small moments that bring your event to life.

What types of corporate events do you specialize in?

Photography by Misty has photographed simple team meetings (usually including headshots) as well as  corporate events with 1000s of attendees. We have worked with national clients like Toyota North America and Frito-Lay, worldwide companies such ASSA ABLOY and Abbott as well as local clients like the Plano Chamber of Commerce and Mission Advancement.

Do I get to decides what is photographed or is that up to the photographer??

An experienced photographer should have an understanding of how to visually tell a corporate event story. Expect them to have a mental checklist of what to capture, from signage to speakers' images and everything in between. However, it is your event, so your photographer should also be asking about your visions, the run-of-show, any surprise moments. While it is a good idea to lean into your video and photography team's experience and suggestions, know that you should have the final say. Also, ask to see examples of their work. Event photography encompasses all things photography, from people photography to product photography, candids, branding, landscape, architecture and event sports.

Need headshots, a photo booth or video coverage, too? Be sure to ask your photographer if they offer these services or if they can refer you to someone.

At Photography by Misty, we've seen it all. Sports on stage? Yes! That is one of the reasons we find it imperative to have a consultation. The more we know in advance, the more you can rely on us to do our thing event day and the better your pictures will look.

How do you handle overlapping moments?

One photographer can not be at two places at once. However, if not every moment is imperative to capture, then 15 minutes of speaker images and then 15 minutes of breakout photography would be the perfect solution. During the consultation process, priorities will be set by the event leader. There is always the option to hire a second photographer for added coverage during the busiest part of the event's program. You may consider hiring a photography team vs two individual photographers. That way, your coverage remains consistent.

When will I receive the images?

That's a really great question. Delivery timeframes vary from one photographer to the next. On average it takes 3-6 weeks for a photographer to deliver a gallery of images. You can also request a highlight reel or social media files. There may be additional fees.

When working with us, we deliver the full gallery in 7 to 10 days. For an added fee, you can get a handful of images the next day. If you would like to receive images as the event is happening it is possible through Photography by Misty's Real-Time photography.

What is Real-Time photography?

Real-Time photography is a service that delivers images of attendees directly to their cellphone during the event. Before the event, attendees will scan a QR code and upload a selfie. Then as images are taken during the event, AI will identify faces from the selfies and send images to the users' cellphones. The attendees can then share the images with each other or upload to social media.

The event planner will still receive all edited images in 7 to 10 days.

Who owns the copyright to the photographs?

Some photographers retain the copyright to images from corporate events, even if they are paid for their services. The client usually receives a license for usage (marketing, internal use). Photography by Misty does not work that way. It is your event; the images are yours.

Will the photographer stay if my event goes long?

You should not expect a photographer to be available to remain onsite longer than the contracted hours. However, at Photography by Misty, please bring up the chance of your event running long during the consultation. If the photographer is available to stay, he/she will stay on-site.

Are you insured?

Many hotels require outside vendors to present Certificates of Insurance. Not only does Photography by Misty have a muli-million-dollar policy, but we are already on-file with several of the area hotels and event venues.

Will the photographer need breaks or meals?

Breaks are built into the photographer's schedule for half-day and full-day events. Meals are appreciated but not required.

What happens if a problem occurs?

Corporate event photography can face numerous challenges, ranging from technical issues to logistical problems. Photography by Misty has experienced photographers who have dealt with and solved these problems on the fly. The consultation is a key component in the planning process to try and avoid potential issues.

Why do I need a professional photographer for my company's event?

How much does corporate event photography cost?

How much does corporate event photography cost?

Many factors come into play when it comes to the price of event photography. Some photographers charge as little as $150/hr, while others are as much as $400/hour.

At Photography by Misty, we charge $362/hr and have a 2-hour minimum. Why? We are really good at what we do and do not need to be babysat. Our team is well equipped with knowledge and experience, every picture gets edited.

Is it better to hire a photographer for a half-day or full-day event?

Corporate photographers have their own way of doing things. Oftentimes, it is difficult to tell the corporate event story with only 4 hours of coverage. If you have a variety of activities, from speakers to happy hours and breakouts, it would be best to book your photographer for an entire day.

Are travel costs included?

Most photographers will charge a travel fee beyond a 30-60 mile radious, while others charge a travel fee just to leave the house.

At Photography by Misty, there is no travel fee within the DFW Metroplex.

What affects the cost of event photography?

Typically the number of hours. You should expect simple pricing. Do ask about hidden fees? For instance, some photographers charge set-up fees and copyright or usage fees.

At Photography by Misty, what is expected from us should already be included in the proposal. You need to use the images and your photographer needs to set up your shoot for success.

Why does it take a photographer so long to deliver pictures?

Expect no more than 6 weeks. That may sound like a long time. Keep in mind, most photography companies are a one-person operation. And having to wait means they are taking their time to crop, tweak and adjust.

A quick turn-around is not necessarily a good thing. It could be that your photographer did not cull and edit the images or allowed AI to do the work. Of course, maybe they are just fast.

You should always ask for past examples. Event photography is challenging. Expect your photographer to cull through those pictures with closed eyes, unattractive facial expressions and incorrect exposure. Each picture should tell a story - not leaving you wondering what the point of the picture is. They should also be straightened.

At Photography by Misty, expect your final images in 7-10 days, all individually edited by our in-house editor Jenny. Immediate deliverables available upon request. Additional fees may apply.
