The best location depends on the look you want. Professional headshots can be taken in a studio, at your office, outdoors, or in an urban setting. A clean studio backdrop is great for a polished, consistent look, while outdoor or environmental locations add personality.

Choose a photographer who can use professional lighting, not just natural light, to ensure great results in any setting.

Individual headshot sessions are available at our Plano studio for $199, including your session and **two professionally retouched headshots. Prefer an on-location session? We travel within 60 miles for $279, with additional travel fees for locations beyond that.

Professional sessions can take as little as 5 minutes or as long as two hours. Team events, involving back-to-back headshots and those taken at trade shows or conventions are typically 5 minutes or as little as 1-2-3 minutes, respectively. Individually scheduled sessions range from 15 minutes to 2 hours. More important than the amount of time spent are the results from the session. It's great to know how long you should expect. However, more important than session length is hiring a photographer who understands professional lighting you and posing you to look your best, all while paying attention to details and making you feel comfortable in front of the camera,

You can expect our basic home-studio sessions, including 2 final enhanced images, to last between 20-30 minutes. For the Signature Headshot Session, with multiple looks, outfit changes and 5 finals, plan to spend 30-60 minutes.

Regardless of the session you choose, expect attention to detail, expert posing and lighting. It is important to us that your professional pictures reflects you on your very best day.

Choose clothing that makes you feel confident and fits well. Solid colors and well-tailored outfits photograph best, while loose clothing, busy patterns, and oversized logos can be distracting.

For men, a jacket over a white or patterned shirt creates a polished look. For women, structured tops or jackets with sleeves tend to photograph more flatteringly.

If you normally wear glasses, bring them! We use professional lighting to minimize glare and can also capture a few images without them so you have options.

Your Shooter will guide you through flattering poses, natural expressions, and professional lighting while paying attention to every detail. You'll have the opportunity to review your images during the session, and we'll help you choose the ones that best represent you. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable, confident, and proud of your final headshots.

Our goal is for you to leave feeling confident and excited about your new headshots. If you're not happy with the initial results, we'll review the images together, discuss what you'd like to change, and capture additional shots. Your satisfaction is our priority.

Your images are professionally retouched before delivery, so they're typically not available the same day. Once you select your favorites, our editor applies natural enhancements while keeping you looking like yourself. If you have specific editing requests, just let us know—we're happy to accommodate reasonable adjustments.

Your headshots will be professionally retouched and delivered within 7–10 days. Each image is edited individually to ensure natural, high-quality results. Need them sooner? Rush processing may be available upon request.

Every skin tone is unique, and we adjust our lighting, camera settings, and editing to ensure natural, flattering results. Our goal is to accurately capture your features and create headshots that look authentic, polished, and true to you.

• Schedule a cut or color at least a week prior to your session
• Do not drink alcohol or energy drinks the night before or that day of (yes, there is reason we also have to mention the day of...). Both are dehydrators and wil, age you overnight. Try it some night.
• East heathly. Inflammatory foods will add weight to your face.
• Prep the weekly leading up to your big day. Does that white dress shirt have a lipstick stain on the collar? Did that jacket shrink in the wash since you last wore it.

There's no denying it, some really great software exists. And it is only going to get better. Not to mention, virtual or AI-generated headshots are less expensive. However, you are taking the picture on your phone and emailing it to be edited onto a professional backdrop. No one is there to pose you, light you or pay attention to the small details. Many photographers offer virtual headshots. Starting with a professional may help you strike a balance - professional guidance while also possibly saving your budget. Oftentimes photographers will still show up in person to create headshots of those in the office, then offer AI services for remote team members.

At Photography by Misty, we've taken ourselves through the process. And, hey, we know what we're doing in front of the camera. Yet, when you can't see yourself in the mirror, there's a lot of trial and error. And while we do use a little PhoTox, each headshots is handled on an individual basis. Our professional photographers are trained to do all those things. You may love that computer-enhanced headshot, but what do your honest friends have to say? We also can offer an AI options for your remote team members. This service comes with guidance to set you up for success.

Most photographers will set up shop on location. And that's the way to go, as stepping around the corner for a professional headshot session gives your team more time to focus on work. Be sure to ask questions. Is there a set up fee? Are there travel fees? Do they pack professional equipment and backdrops or do they rely on white walls and great office or natural lighting?

Every week, an admin, HR director or CMO tells us, "We have great lighting in our office and we also have a white wall." That's great, but at Photography by Misty, we roll out the door and into your place with lighting, modifiers, professional backdrops for truly professional headshots. Heck, we even bring an assistant along, making for a smoother process. While we have a plethora of backdrop options or will even order one just for you, a nice office can serve you better than an official backdrop. We have stepped into some of the nicest spaces in DFW.

This is a not a one-answer-fits-all answer. Do friends, family and co-workers compliment you when wearing a certain outfit or color? Start there. Wear well-fitting clothes that makes you feel confident and comfortable. No matter how great your guns look, wear at 3/4 sleeves. Large areas of skin showing completes with your face. Take for instance, the back of your hand. It is just as large as your face. It is subliminal competition. Now try unseeing it in professional portraits - or even party pics. You are most welcome.

For group shots: Solid colors, minimal patterns, and coordinating (but not matching) outfits work best.

For men: Everyone loves a crisp white oxford, however, it can dominate the headshot. If you want to wear white, top it with a jacket. The same is true for a patterned shirt, wear it with a jacket. We will ask you to button your jacket so make sure you can.

For women: Flowing sleeves and bodices are great in person, but not in headshots where they add weight to your frame. Wear at least a three-quarter length sleeved top or a jacket. Great guns or not, any skin showing other than your face and neck can draw unwanted attention.

A professional photographer can typically shoot 20 to 30 people per hour. Some will even guarantee 60 people/hour. It is best to have a collaboration call with your potential photographers.

At Photography by Misty, we recommend 3 to 5 minutes per employee which comes out to 12 to 20 people per hour.  We keep things moving while still giving each individual the attention they deserve. For conventions, trade shows or conferences, when headshots are a gift to attendees or used to attract attention to the event or an individual booth, a great headshots can still be accomplished in 1 minute. On the other hand, for executive leadership, you may want your photographer to spend 15 or maybe even 30 minutes. Various looks, outfit changes or facial expressions will give you options later for a plethora of needs.

If you have 100 employees who need headshots and don't like the idea of it taking 5 to 8 hours, you can hire multiple photographers to achieve your goal in a shorter amount of time.

Most photographers have a gameplan in place for catering to executive leadership. Of course, be sure to express your reasons for special treatment. If, on the other hand, your  leaders have very little time, a collaboration call will serve everyone well.

While at Photography by Misty will believe no matter the title everyone is equally important, we realize executive leaders need professional portraits and headshots that convey a plethora of messaging. A collaboration call is suggested for us to get an idea of company culture, the various roles of your leaders, as well as where their pictures will be used. Wardrobe options and changes, body language, more than one backdrop and various facial expressions will help tell a variety of stories. For instance

• A solemn portrait may be imperative when presenting to board.
• A slight closed-mouth smile with confident eyes is more appropriate for an annual sales meeting.
• At Photography by Misty, we like to get to know your people, your culture and what an average week in your leaders' lives look like.

Be weary of photographers who do not set your team members up for success. Of course, if you have not worked with them previously, it may be difficult to know. Ask for co-workers or friends' recommendations, check out their reviews. While this may all sound like a lot of work on your end, it less time consuming and less expensive than hiring the wrong photographer.

When asking "Do you pose people?" or "Are you detail oriented?" it is easy for photographer to say yes.

Instead, ask questions that reflect experienced answers:

• "What is most common things you help people with when it comes to posing?"
• "How do you know when someone is not comfortable or confident in front of the camera?"

In our 23 years, we've been hired on numerous occasions by companies who just had their headshots taken by another professional photographers or a team member's friend or relative. Reasons include a one-and-done or it-is-what-it-is attitude, relying on people knowing what to do in front of the camera or even over editing.

While each of PBMisty's photographers and assistants are well trained in posing and lighting, get one of us in front of a camera, and oftentimes we still cannot strike or hold the perfect pose. Why? We cannot see ourselves in a mirror. Your photographer should be able to pose and light people for genuine portrait success. They should act as your mirror. Adjusting askew jewelry and looking for wardrobe distractions are just the beginning.

That's a great questions and more common that you might think. An experienced photographer will be able to detect people's level of comfort. And, oftentimes, people walk in with transparency "I am not photogenic" (which really means, "I am not confident in front of the camera." Getting people there is a big part of a professional photographer's job.

Picking up on verbal cues, body-language and faux expressions is where Photography by Misty team members shine. It comes witrh experience, training and, most of all, putting ourselves in the minds of our clients. If we fall silent for several seconds, while also squinting or casting our eyes downward, we are simply figuring out how to adjust your pose or what to say to set you up for portrait success. 

Tethering has been a game-changer in the photography industry. Tethering is when clients can immediately view their pictures. Don't like what you see? Communicating what you don't like as well as what you do with the photographer and assistant allows for a strategic round 2.

Yes. Please provide Photography by Misty with examples of your current headshots before the day of the photo shoot.

Some photographers tether, allowing clients to select their favorite image immediately. Others will send options your way. Be sure to ask, as there may be some photographers who will choose for you.

When given the chance, Misty with Photography by Misty, will cash in on complimentary headshots (sometimes even paying). What she often experiences is receiving all the images taken. It is nice to have options. However, these are not enhanced. Very few people will use a  headshot that has not been professionally touched.

In our world, the answer is "Yes, you choose your favorite portrait." You can also request specific editing. Immediately after their individual session, the photographer or the assistant will help the employee narrow down the options and select their favorite. 

All delivered images are genuinely enhanced or what we like to call PhoTox. You should not be married to a pimple for the next 5 years nor should people (especially you) be focused on those fine lines they don't notice in person.

That is an insightful question. And be sure to ask that of your potential photographers.

We provide natural enhancements -- what a client of ours coined "FauxTox" -- that refine without over-editing. The goal is a polished, professional look that still feels authentic. And looks like you on your very best day. Special requests (not erasing the face) are taken and granted.

Professional photographers offer a variety of delivery methods. Deliver times range from immediate (typically sans editing or AI enhanced).

PBMisty's policy is to deliver enhanced downloads within 7-10 days (which includes weekends), depending on the scope of the project. All the images are put into an organized online gallery for easy downloading.

In the corporate world, photographers need 4-6 months for multi-day corporate events and 3-5 weeks for team headshots.

Photography by Misty prefers a couple of weeks notice. However, because we have a team of trained photographers and assistants we are usually able to accommodate last-minute requests.

Some photographers ask for a white wall, natural lighting or great office lighting. More professional photographers each have their own requirements. Be sure to ask questions such as:

• the amount of space they need
• will they need wifi access
• will they need someone from your team to stay with them.

Photography by Misty needs, at least, an open space that is 12 feet by 12 feet with a table and electrical outlets for our laptop. If you have hired two photographers, double those requirements. We will need to know where to park and where we can unload our equipment. And having internet access is helpful. If we are moving about your office, going to multiple locations or need to photograph specific people (fopr example, executive leadership at a corporate event), a designated person to guide us is appreciated. Otherwise, we are self sufficient.

Headshots in our area can be as low as $75 for both a session and final image. You will typically find these bargains when working with hobbyist photographers. Does this mean they are not great at what they do? Not necessarily. Ask a lot of questions, be sure to see a plethora of examples for various clients and also read those reviews. Be sure to do your research when hiring a more expensive photographer. Experience, when can cost you upwards of $500 does not always equal stellar results.

Look for a photographer who knows lighting, posing and, most of all, has a passion for people. The difference that can make is being set up for headshot success and not just checking the headshot box for their clients. You need  headshots that your team members are proud to represent them.

Based on our extensive training, based on years of experience, processes and procedures, as well as passion for people, our prices start at $199 for an in-studio session. The more people who need photographed, the less expensive/person the cost. However, in-studio sessions can cost more, depending on number of pictures needed, various looks (which can include facial expressions, body language). 

Though most professional photographers were trained to always have an assistant, this is a question which should be asked, as it is not an industry standard. You will find that most experienced corporate photographers understand the importance and value of an assistant.

Through 22 years of experience, we know bringing an assistant is imperative. There's a comical definition (based on truth, like all great humor) or a photographer.

Photographer (noun): one who solves problems and moves furniture. Of course, they must also know how to take a well-lit and superbly composed picture.

There are many ways an assistant earns their value. Here are just a few of them:

• Assistants are a second pair of eyes to fix a wayward necklace, straighten a crooked collar or tell a joke to entice a genuine smile.
• Assistants guide the client in selecting the final image so the photographer can continue to create.
• Assistants can also grab spare batteries out of the camera bag, run to the car or sign people in without having to disrupt the photographer's work.
• Well-trained assistants also offer ideas and have the time to think outside the box, even under the pressure of a fast-paced event.

Snacks and scheduled breaks vary from photographer to photographer. Most wedding photographers, who are scheduled from 8 to 12 hours, ask that you provide food and a slice of wedding cake. While they may need to dash to the bathroom or take an occasional bite, many wedding photographers bring along a second shooter, who will take over photographing for those imperative breaks.

Photography by Misty schedules breaks if shoots are longer than 4 hours. If shoots occur during meal time and more than 4 hours, meals and snacks are appreciated but not required. Our photographers and assistants know to bring their own energy-packed nutrients. Food provided by our clients is considered a bonus.

Most photographers have a studio space where you can send new hires or those who missed headshot day.

Coming to our home studio is always an option for new hires or those out on headshot day. Once you have hired Photography by Misty for a heasdshot event, where we accomodate a large number of your team members, we offer a discounted rate for headshot updates, new hires and those who missed the original date. 

For those who work remote, Misty will help you source a trusted photographer in a convenient city. This is at no cost for existing clients.

Most photographers offer an intake form. While this is a safe way to share info without getting into potentially uncomfortable sales conversations, it is a step most photographers require before presenting you with info to make an educated decision.
