Who's Up for a Good Story?

Whether it’s eating at a hole in the wall instead of the newest rave, hiking a well-trodden path or eating a salted and dried grasshopper, doing something out of the ordinary can be fun and make for a great story.

While on vacation at Lake of the Ozarks a few weeks ago, my nephew Wes said to me, “Aunt Misty, I like you’re always up for an adventure.”

We have yet to get into any kind of trouble (whew, because who’s the adult around here?), but our outings are not always mother (or in my case, husband) approved. Take for example the time we went to Six Flags in New Orleans. You may ask, who in the world would be opposed to a trip to Six Flags even if you’re dared to ride the scariest coaster out there? Probably not too many people, that is if the amusement park was open (#AbandonedSixFlags ). Yes, that’s right, while the rest of the family was at the World War II Museum (which we heard was kick ass), we headed to the closed and abandoned adventure-seeking park. The taxi driver couldn’t close his mouth when we insisted he drop us off.

We met another photographer while there, who is also a frequent visitor. He did tell us where security was posted up, showed us how to get in and wished us luck.

It was entertaining on a ‘hole ‘nuther level: exhilarating, quite creepy and scary in the fact I was afraid of getting caught. Security didn’t catch us, but did meet up with us once we were back outside the gates. She insisted we hitch a ride, as we were not in a safe part of town. We have a few pictures as souvenirs (mine not so great as I was a bit paranoid. (Click here for some better ones!), and the four of us enjoyed reliving the day.

What’s your favorite adventure?
