Starving Artist? Spilling the tea on this misnomer

How do those two answers go hand in hand? Instead of a degree in photography, I have encouraged business or marketing. After all, those with a passion for the art will teach themselves the science via You Tube, “Digital Photography for Dummies,”  or there are plenty of online classes through Creative Live that are inexpensive and the best way: practice, practice, practice. It’s the business side of things that’s the real challenge.

Until recently, I have never discouraged college. After all, an academic foundation in business and marketing is incredibility insightful and useful to running a photography business! I still believe in education, but it does not necessarily have to be acquired through a university, especially if career aspirations are not of the law, engineering or science. Oftentimes learning from someone who has not just been there and done that, but is still making it happen is the best education there is - real world experience and expertise.
